*Echinops sphaerocephalus Linnaeus. Globe-thistle. Phen: Jul-Oct. Hab: Roadsides, edges of railroad tracks, disturbed areas. Dist: Native of Europe and w. Asia. Reported as introduced as far south as se. PA (Rhoads & Klein 1993) and VA (Fernald 1950; Keil in FNA 2006a).

Origin/Endemic status: Eurasia

Other Comments: Its occurrence in VA has recently been verified (C.N. Horn, pers. comm., 2006).
