*Echinops sphaerocephalus Linnaeus. Common name: Globe-thistle. Phenology: Jul-Oct. Habitat: Roadsides, edges of railroad tracks, disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of Europe and w. Asia. Reported as introduced as far south as se. PA (Rhoads & Klein 1993) and VA (Fernald 1950; Keil in FNA 2006a). Its occurrence in VA has recently been verified (C.N. Horn, pers. comm., 2006).
