Eupatorium cordigerum (Fernald) Fernald. Common name: Clasping Roundleaf Eupatorium. Phenology: Jul-Aug. Habitat: Woodlands. Distribution: VA, NC, and SC west to AR and MS.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: This taxon is a considered to be an apomictic, polyploid derivative of the hybrid E. perfoliatum × rotundifolium. Cronquist (1991) describes it as "possibly not long-persistent, but frequently created when propinquity permits". It is unclear that it can be consistently and reliably distinguished morphologically from robust plants of Eupatorium rotundifolium.
