ID notes: This species often has 3 leaves per node; most similar species rarely or never have whorled leaves.

Stems: Stems usually solitary and branched only in the inflorescence, densely hairy and sometimes glandular.
Leaves: Leaves in whorls of 3 (rarely 4 or opposite), elliptic to oblong-lance-shaped, with 3 primary veins, toothed, minutely hairy.

Flowers: Composite flowers (heads) arranged in omewhat round-topped clusters at tips of inflorescence branches; heads white, about 1/4 in. long and consisting of several tiny, tubular disk florets surrounded by several series of tiny bracts.
