Ludwigia alata Elliott. Section: Isnardia. Common name: Winged Seedbox. Phenology: Jun-Oct. Habitat: Interdune ponds, freshwater to slightly brackish (oligohaline) marshes, cypress swamps. Distribution: Se. VA south to s. FL, west to se. LA; disjunct in Jamaica, where apparently introduced.

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: This species is a hexaploid (n = 24). One third of the genome of L. alata is apparently derived from L. microcarpa or its ancestor (Peng 1988).
