Hieracium umbellatum Linnaeus. Common name: Northern Hawkweed. Phenology: Jul-Sep. Habitat: Rocky areas, open or forested areas. Distribution: Circumboreal, south in North America to PA, WV (Spruce Knob), IN, MO, CO, and OR.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Cronquist (1991) commented that the American plants in this complex should "possibly be recognized as a distinct var., but the nomenclature is recondite".
