Plectocephalus americanus (Nuttall) D. Don in R. Sweet. American Basketflower. Phen: Jul-Sep. Hab: Glades and woodlands westward; eastwards as a waif in waste ground around wool-combing mills in e. SC (Nesom 2004d), waifs at old ports or mills, or planted at agricultural experimental stations. Dist: S. IL, MO, KS, NM, and AZ south to s. AR, w. LA, TX, and Mexico (CHH, COA, DUR, HID, NLE, OAX, ROO, SLP, SON, TAM).

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Other Comments: Seen in Johnson Co., IL in 2010 by J. Wibbenmeyer (P. Marcum, pers. comm., 2023).
