Leaves:Leaves alternate, sessile, crowded, lance-shaped to lance-linear, 1-6 in. long, sharply toothed, with 2 veins parallel to the midvein and hairy beneath along veins.

Flowers:Compound flowers (heads) clustered along spreading-ascending, curving branches of pyramid-shaped, terminal cluster; heads to 1/8 in. long, consisting of 8-14 tiny, yellow ray florets and just a few yellow, tubular, disk florets.
