Solidago curtisii Torrey & A. Gray. Subgenus: Pleiactila. Section: Glomeruliflorae. Common name: Curtis’s Goldenrod. Phenology: Sep-Oct. Habitat: Moist forested slopes, and rarely in mafic woodlands in the Piedmont of VA. Distribution: A Central and Southern Appalachian endemic: WV south to n. GA and n. AL.

Taxonomy Comments: Var. curtisii, with stem glabrous or slightly puberulent in the inflorescence, and var. pubens (M.A. Curtis) A. Gray, with stem densely puberulent, are sometimes distinguished. They do not appear to be worthy of taxonomic recognition.

Flowers: Composite flowers (heads) in small axillary clusters; heads about 1/4 in. wide, with 2-4 yellow ray florets encircling a small center disk of 3-9 yellow, tubular florets. 3-4 series of very narrow, green bracts surround the narrowly bell-shaped base of each head.
