*Fagopyrum P. Miller. Subfamily: Polygonoideae. Tribe: Fagopyreae. Common name: Buckwheat.
A genus of about 8-16 species, perennial and annual herbs, of e. Asia and Africa. The Latin and common name both refer to the similarity of the seeds to beechnuts.
