Festuca Linnaeus. Subfamily: Pooideae. Tribe: Poeae (CHLOROPLAST GROUP 2 Poeae type). Subtribe: Loliinae. supertribe: Poodae. clade: "BOP". Fescue.
A genus of about 530 species, nearly cosmopolitan in temperate regions. Likely, given the complex phylogenetic relationships between several Vulpia clades and the “narrow-leaved Festuca clade” (= Festuca s.s.) it is best to include Vulpia in Festuca, even if Festuca is treated narrowly to consist only of the “narrow-leaved clade”.
