Symphyotrichum firmum (Nees) Nesom. Shining Aster. Phen: Aug-Oct. Hab: Peaty wetlands and seepages, fens, wet prairies. Dist: QC west to ND, south to WV, NC, and IA.

Taxonomy Comments: Included by Nesom (1997) in Symphyotrichum puniceum (Linnaeus) Nesom var. puniceum, but see discussion in Nesom (1997b) and the analysis in Warners & Laughlin (1999) of differences between it and S. puniceum.
