A genus of about 18 species, herbs, of tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate America, and of Oceania and se. Asia.
ID notes: Pterocaulon is an unmistakable genus in our flora, the stems and leaf undersurfaces creamy-white floccose-tomentose, the leaf bases decurrent down the stem, the heads in oblong, terminal spikes, the tip nodding before anthesis.
