A genus of about 50-60 species, herbs and shrubs, of the Old World.

Glossary (beta!)

Subfamily: Cichorioideae. Tribe: Cichorieae. Subtribe: Hyoseridinae.

ID notes: Distinguished from Lactuca by its beakless cypselae. Sonchus also tends to have more florets per head (often 80+).
