*Sonchus Linnaeus. Sow-thistle, Milk-thistle.
A genus of about 50-60 species, herbs and shrubs, of the Old World.
ID notes: Distinguished from Lactuca by its beakless cypselae. Sonchus also tends to have more florets per head (often 80+).
