Yucca rupicola Scheele. Common name: Twist-leaf Yucca. Phenology: Apr-Jun. Habitat: Oak-juniper woodlands, grasslands, and outcrops on limestone soils. Distribution: Edwards Plateau, just extending into the Blackland Prairie region on limestone; also ne. Mexico.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Other Comments: Many populations of this species no longer produce viable seed presumably because of the extirpation of local yucca moth populations (E. Keith, pers. obs.). This species readily hybridized with Yucca pallida at their zone of sympatry. See discussion under that species.
