Pityopsis latifolia (Fernald) E.L. Bridges & Orzell. Common name: Broad-leaved Goldenaster. Phenology: Feb-Apr. Habitat: Florida xeric white sand scrub. Distribution: Atlantic Coast Ridge and nearby ridges inland, s. FL peninsula (Martin, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie counties).
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: See Bridges & Orzell (2018b) for detailed discussion. Nesom (2019a) had a somewhat broader interpretation/concept of this species, including specimens here referred to P. aequilifolia from the southern Lake Wales Ridge. More detailed study is needed of field characters to more precisely define the differences between these two species. Bridges & Orzell (2018b) and Nesom (2019a) agree, however in greatly narrowing the interpretation of the "latifolia" entity from that of earlier authors.
