Bowlesia

not marked as a favorite taxon *Bowlesia incana Ruiz & Pavón. Common name: Hoary Bowlesia. Phenology: Feb-Jun. Habitat: Open wet hammocks and bottomlands, suburban woodlands, urban waste areas. Distribution: Probably native only of South America, but the native distribution of this species is uncertain and is sometimes considered to include Central America, Mexico and even the sw. United States. Reported from multiple locations in South Carolina (Bradley et al. [in prep.]).

Glossary (beta!)

ID notes: Sterile plants superficially resemble Hydrocotyle bowlesioides, H. sibthorpioides, and Ranunculus parviflorus. Bowlesia incana can be distinguished from these species by its opposite and stellate pubescent leaves (versus alternate and glabrous or hirsute leaves) (Thornhill & Krings 2024; pers. obs.).
