Osmorhiza claytonii (Michaux) C.B. Clarke. Common name: Bland Sweet Cicely, Hairy Sweet Cicely, Sweet Jarvil. Phenology: Apr-May; May-Jun. Habitat: Cove forests, other moist, fertile forests. Distribution: NS and QC west to SK, south to NC, n. GA, AL, AR, and (historically) LA (Kelley 2023b).

Horticultural Information
Intro: Erect perennial of cove and other moist, fertile forests.
Stems: Stems stout, branched above, light green to reddish-green, hairy.
Leaves: Leaves alternate; lower leaves petiolate and upper sessile; widely oval in outline but 2 or 3 times divided into 3 leaflets, the ultimate leaflets pointy-tipped and toothed with hairs on the margins.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers in sparse compound umbels at top of stem and from upper leaf axils; white; less than 1/4 in. wide; consisting of 5 petals with incurved tips, 5 white stamens, and an ovary with a very short, divided style.
Fruits: Fruit a joined pair of narrowly elliptic, 5-ridged, seeds that are slightly bristly along their ribs.
Comments: Unlike O. longistylis, this species is lacking in scent.
