Sanicula canadensis Linnaeus var. floridana (E.P. Bicknell) H. Wolff. Common name: Florida Sanicle, Florida Snakeroot. Phenology: Apr-May; Jun-Jul. Habitat: Dry-mesic to mesic, sandy forests, often associated with Fagus grandifolia (and southward Magnolia grandiflora). Distribution: Se. VA south to c. peninsular FL, west to TX, in the Coastal Plain.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: Additional differences between var. floridana and var. canadensis should be investigated. They may not be worthy of taxonomic differentiation.
