*Cicer arietinum Linnaeus. Common name: Chick Pea, Garbanzo. Phenology: Apr-Aug. Habitat: Disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of w. Asia. Described by Isely (1998) as "an occasional recurrent waif" in the United States.

Origin/Endemic status: Mediterranean Europe and Africa

Taxonomy Comments: Ssp. arietinum is the cultivated form. The likely wild ancestor is sometimes treated as ssp. reticulatum (Ladiz.) Moreno & Cubero ex Del Guacchio & P.Caputo; it is not known aside of the native range of the species in w. Asia.
