Rhynchospora eximia (Nees) Boeckeler. Baldrush. Phen: Jan-Dec. Hab: Pine flatwoods pond margins, mesic pine flatwoods. Dist: Peninsular FL; West Indies; Mexico south to South America; w. Africa

ID notes: This species, R. scirpoides, and R. nitens are rather short beaksedges, no more than 6 dm tall and often only about 3 dm. They have rather few but long leaves. The elongate inflorescences may occupy half or more of the plant height. Rhynchospora scirpoides has achenes with beaks 2/3 or more as long as the achene body, vs. achenes with shorter beaks. Rhynchospora eximia differs from both in the upturned flanges of the achene tubercle; see Rhynchospora Key F.
