Spiranthes praecox (Walter) S. Watson. Common name: Grass-leaved Ladies'-tresses, Giant Ladies'-tresses. Phenology: Mar-May (-Jun). Habitat: Pine savannas, swamps, bogs. Distribution: A Southeastern Coastal Plain endemic: NY (Long Island, ?), NJ (?), DE (?), MD (?), south to s. FL and west to TX. The more northern occurrences have been questioned as to identification.
ID notes: Plants in c. and s. FL often lack green veins on the lip.
