Brassia caudata (Linnaeus) Lindley. Common name: Spider Orchid, Cricket Orchid. Phenology: Jan-Aug. Habitat: Rockland hammocks. Distribution: S. FL (Miami-Dade County); West Indies (Cuba, Jamaica, and Hispaniola); Mexico, Central America, and n. South America. At the time of Luer's explorations in s. FL, Brassia caudata was limited to one remaining hammock in Miami-Dade County; live plants have not been seen in FL since 1976.
