Hymenocallis crassifolia Herbert. Phenology: May-Jun; Jun-Jul. Habitat: Tidal marshes, margins of tidal guts, banks of blackwater rivers. Distribution: Se. NC south to ne. FL (Putnam County).

Intro: Colony-forming perennial from a bulb, growing in tidal marshes, margins of tidal guts and banks of blackwater rivers.

Stems: Stem a smooth, slightly flattened scape with whitish coating rising from a rosette of leaves.

Leaves: Leaves 3-5 in a basal rosette, ascending, strap-like, 11-25 in. long, leathery.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers 2--3 in a cluster at top of scape, opening sequentially, white, to 8 in. wide, consisting of a green tube that flares out to a white, membranous, funnel-shaped cup ("corona") with irregular margins and 6 white spider-leg-like extensions; 6 stamens are attached to the margins of the corona. Flowers are fragrant.
