Dichanthelium species 16 . Common name: Sandy Run Witchgrass. Phenology: Apr-Dec. Habitat: Wet savannas underlain by shallow coquina limestone in the outer Coastal Plain. Associates include Rhynchospora thornei, Carex lutea, Coreopsis aristulata, Thalictrum cooleyi and Allium species 1. Distribution: Currently known only from the discovery site in Onslow Co., NC.
ID notes: Plants appear to be hybrids of Dichanthelium scabriusculum and D. scoparium, both of which occur at the site. However, the spikelets of the new entity are shorter than those of the putative parents.
