Acorus americanus (Rafinesque) Rafinesque ssp. americanus. Common name: American Calamus, Sweetflag. Phenology: May-Jun. Habitat: Marshes, wet meadows, other wet areas, limey seeps. Distribution: NS west to AK, south to n. NJ, DC (allegedly), c. OH, c. IN, c. IL, IA, NE, MT, ID, and WA. Because this species has not generally been recognized in floras, its distribution is poorly known; additional distributional records should be expected and sought.

Taxonomy Comments: This species is apparently a fertile diploid. Sennikov et al. (2024) distinguish an Asian subspecies, Acorus americanus ssp. triqueter (Turczaninow ex Schott) D.D. Sokoloff, M.V.Remizowa, & Sennikov
