Opuntia zebrina Small. Phen: Apr-Jun; Aug-Dec (-Feb). Hab: Dunes, coastal scrub, coastal strand, occasionally in rockland or maritime hammocks. Dist: Endemic to s. FL (Monroe County).

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: The taxonomy of Opuntia is extremely complex; this species is treated here based upon stark morphological distinctions, the field experience of the authors, and in hopes of wider recognition and conservation of this entity which is likely to be critically imperiled. However, more data is needed to determine with confidence the relationships and validity of this taxon.
