Veratrum Linnaeus. White-hellebore.
A genus of about 30-55 species, herbs of temperate Northern Hemisphere. Zomlefer et al. (2003) proposed a broad Veratrum (including Melanthium), with the name Veratrum conserved against Melanthium (Zomlefer, Judd, & Gandhi 2010; Zomlefer 2012). A more in-depth molecular study (Kim et al. 2016) has Melanthium more closely related to Stenanthium and Anticlea.
