*Genista tinctoria Linnaeus. Common name: Dyer's Greenweed, Dyer’s Broom. Phenology: Mar-Sep. Habitat: Disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of Europe. Not cited in Harvill et al. (1992), but described as naturalized in sterile soils south to VA in Cronquist (1990), Fernald (1950), and Gleason & Cronquist (1952).
Origin/Endemic status: Europe
Taxonomy Comments: POWO (2024) recognizes five subspecies; apparently only ssp. tinctoria is present in North America.
