Pellaea ternifolia (Cavanilles) Link ssp. arizonica Windham. Arizona Cliff-brake. Hab: On granitic outcrops. Dist: A remarkable disjunct from sw. United States and Mexico (south to Oaxaca) to w. SC; see Heafner (2001) for additional information. When discovered, it was believed that the SC site was a state record for P. wrightiana (Platt & Townsend 1996), but Heafner (2001) has demonstrated that the station actually represents P. ternifolia ssp. arizonica.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Perhaps better accorded species rank as distinct from P. ternifolia (ssp. ternifolia).

Synonymy: = FNA2, K1, K3, K4, TxFerns, Windham et al (2022); = n/a – RAB; < Hemionitis ternifolia (Cav.) Christenh. – Christenhusz, Fay, & Byng (2018); < Pellaea ternifolia (Cav.) Link var. ternifolia – Tx
