Rhynchospora torreyana A. Gray. Torrey's Beaksedge. Phen: Jul-Sep. Hab: Pine savannas, seepage bogs, often weedy. Dist: Se. MA south to GA, AL, and MS.

ID notes: The stems of Rhynchospora torreyana grow 5-10 dm tall, the upper portion and inflorescence usually arching. Inflorescences are rusty brown or light chestnut brown; the achenes are 4-6 mm long, flat on both faces, with bristles less than half the body length.
