Hab: Longleaf pine sandhills and dry to moist savannas. Dist: Se. VA south to s. FL, west to Panhandle FL and se. AL, barely extending onto the Piedmont in NC, SC, and GA.

Taxonomy Comments: Clewell (1966a) discusses apparent intergrades between the two varieties in s. NJ.
