*Abelmoschus esculentus (Linnaeus) Moench. Common name: Okra, Gumbo. Phenology: Jun-Sep. Habitat: Frequently cultivated in gardens, rarely persistent or self-seeding the year following. Distribution: Native of s. Asia. Reported for AR (Serviss & Peck 2017).

Origin/Endemic status: E., se., and s. Asia

Other Comments: The young capsules are a famous component of southern cooking.
