Hab: Mesic forests, in the outer Coastal Plain usually associated with shell deposits, Indian shell middens, or underlying coquina limestone ("marl"). Dist: NC south to c. peninsular FL and west to OK and c. TX.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Pigott (2012) splits this entity into two taxa, each recognized at subspecific rank under T. caroliniana.
