Limnobium spongia (Bosc) L.C. Richard ex Steudel. American Frog's-bit, Spongeplant. Phen: Jun-Sep. Hab: Swamps, marshes, ponds, pools. Dist: DE and MD south to s. FL, west to e. TX, north in the interior in the Mississippi Embayment to s. MO and s. IL; disjunct around the Great Lakes (as in n. IN and w. NY).

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: Reports of L. spongia as also in tropical America are based on misapplication to L. laevigatum (Humboldt & Bonpland ex Willdenow) Heine.
