Lyonia fruticosa (Michaux) G.S. Torrey. Staggerbush, Poor-grub. Phen: Jan-Jul; May-Oct. Hab: Pocosins, Florida scrub, pine flatwoods. Dist: Se. SC (at least formerly) south to s. peninsular FL, west to e. Panhandle FL.

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: This species can be difficult to distinguish from L. ferruginea, with which it often co-occurs.

Other Comments: Though not included in RAB for the Carolinas, Judd (1981) cites several old specimens from SC. The species is definitely known from immediately adjacent GA, and there seems no reason to doubt its (at least historical) occurrence in SC.

Synonymy: = Fl5, FNA8, GW2, K1, K3, K4, WH3, Judd (1981), Luteyn et al (1996); = Xolisma fruticosa (Michx.) Nash – S; < Lyonia ferruginea (Walter) Nutt. – RAB
