*Catharanthus roseus (Linnaeus) G. Don. Rosy-periwinkle, Madagascar Periwinkle, Cayenne Jasmine. Phen: May-Oct. Hab: Disturbed areas, northwards only persistent after cultivation or as a waif or "throw-out" after cultivation. Dist: Native of Madagascar, now a pantropical weed.

Origin/Endemic status: Subsaharan Africa

Other Comments: C. roseus is the source of a powerful anti-leukemia drug.
