Myosotis verna Nuttall. Common name: Early Forget-me-not, Spring Forget-me-not. Phenology: Mar-Jul. Habitat: Dry woodlands, roadsides, disturbed areas, dry fields. Distribution: ME west to SD, south to GA and TX; also from ID and BC south to OR.

Stems: Stems unbranched or occasionally branching, covered in white hairs.

Leaves: Leaves basal and alternate on the stem, mostly sessile (lowest leaves with winged bases), oblong to oblong-lance-shaped, 1/2-2 in. long, hairy margined and hairy on both surfaces.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers in a coiled, hairy raceme (2-8 in. long) at end of stem, which straightens as flowers bloom and fruit ripen; white, 1/8 in. wide, funnel-shaped with 5 rounded corolla lobes and a hairy calyx with 5 lanceolate lobes.

Fruits: Fruit a brown, furry capsule containing 4 nutlets.
