Crataegus intricata Lange var. boyntonii (Beadle) Kruschke. Boynton’s Hawthorn. Phen: Apr-May; Sep-Oct. Hab: Upland forest understories, pastures, rock outcrops, shrubby thickets. Dist: W. NC and n. SC west to n. GA.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Differs from typical var. of C. intricata by having an abundance of broadly ovate to deltoid leaves 5-8 cm long × 3-5 cm wide, and more robust thorns. Possibly represents a southern Appalachian endemic form of C. intricata.
