Helianthus annuus Linnaeus. Common Sunflower, Mirasol. Phen: Jun-Oct. Hab: Disturbed areas, often cultivated in gardens, sometimes cultivated in fields. Dist: Native of the Plains states south into Mexico. This is the common cultivated sunflower grown for its flowers, seeds, and oil.
