Helianthus laetiflorus Persoon. Phenology: Late Jul-Sep. Habitat: Fields, woodland edges, disturbed areas; introduced from farther west. Distribution: Widely scattered in e. and c. North America. Perhaps a naturally hybrid-derived species in the Midwest, and introduced eastwards.

Taxonomy Comments: Helianthus laetiflorus is believed to be a derivative of the hybrid of H. pauciflorus Nuttall ssp. subrhomboideus (Rydberg) O. Spring & E. Schilling and H. tuberosus.
