not marked as a favorite taxon Helianthus pauciflorus Nuttall ssp. pauciflorus. Common name: Stiff Sunflower. Phenology: Jul-Oct. Habitat: Prairies, disturbed areas. Distribution: Ontario and Michigan west to South Dakota and Saskatchewan, south to w. Kentucky, n. Mississippi, and Texas. Reported for Virginia by Fernald (1950) under the name H. laetiflorus var. rigidus and for nc. Georgia by Jones & Coile (1988) under the name H. rigidus.
