Symphyotrichum sericeum (Ventenat) Nesom. Western Silvery Aster. Phen: Aug-Dec. Hab: Glades, upland prairies, thin soils over calcareous outcrops. Dist: See Jones, Witsell, & Nesom (2008); all reports of this species east of the Mississippi River and south of the Ohio River are based on misidentifications (or a taxonomically broader application) of S. pratense.
