Rugelia Shuttleworth ex Chapman. Rugelia, Rugel's Ragwort.

A monotypic genus, an herb, endemic to the Great Smoky Mountains of w. North Carolina and e. Tennessee. Treated variously as Senecio or Cacalia in most recent North American floras (see synonymy), this species is clearly morphologically anomalous in either. Molecular evidence has confirmed that it is best treated as a monotypic genus, most closely related to two small genera endemic to nw. United States, Luina and Rainiera (Schilling & Floden 2014).
