Viburnum molle Michaux. Common name: Soft Arrow-wood. Phenology: May-early Jun; late Jun-Aug. Habitat: Mesic to subxeric bluffs, talus, and steep, forested slopes, usually over calcareous rock. Distribution: Scattered, discontinuous range (but locally may occur in several contiguous counties) from sw. OH, nc. IN, wc. IL, and se. IA south to sc. TN, nw. AR; disjunct in sw. IA.
ID notes: V. molle has prominent, peeling bark; V. bracteatum has tight bark.
