Hab: Dry-mesic to mesic, sandy forests, often associated with Fagus grandifolia (and southward Magnolia grandiflora). Dist: Se. VA south to c. peninsular FL, west to TX, in the Coastal Plain.

Taxonomy Comments: Additional differences between var. floridana and var. canadensis should be investigated. They may not be worthy of taxonomic differentiation.
