Crataegus pruinosa (H.L. Wendland) K. Koch var. gattingeri (Ashe) Lance. Gattinger's Hawthorn. Phen: Apr-May; Sep-Oct. Hab: Hardwood and pine-hardwood woodlands, brush, pastures. Dist: PA to GA, west to MO, AR; extending south into the Coastal Plain in AL, MS, LA, and AR.

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: This taxon bears some resemblance to the northerly C. compacta Sargent in its small anthers and elongate terminal lobe of the leaves. The entity C. georgiana Sargent may represent an intermediate of var. gattingeri and C. iracunda Beadle.
