Shepherdia canadensis (Linnaeus) Nuttall. Rabbitberry, Soapberry, Canada Buffalo-berry. Phen: May-Jun; Jul-Sep. Hab: Bluffs and slopes, over calcareous substrates. Dist: NL west to AK, south to nw. PA, n. OH., n. IN, n. IL, MN, sw. SD, NM, AZ, and n. CA. Primarily (but not exclusively) associated with dry calcareous bluffs along the Great Lakes in the ne. US.
