Crataegus ×oreophila R.W. Lance. Balsam Mountain Hawthorn. Phen: May; Sep. Hab: High elevation forests, balds. Dist: Endemic to central and western Great Balsam Mountains (Jackson, Haywood Counties, NC).

ID notes: Often sympatric with Crataegus macrosperma Ashe, differing in the rhombic-elliptic leaf shape and more arborescent habit (3-8 m).
