Liriodendron tulipifera Linnaeus var. tulipifera . Tulip-tree, Yellow Poplar, Whitewood. Phen: Apr-Jun; Sep-Oct. Hab: Mesic forests, cove forests in the Mountains to at least 1500m in elevation, bottomland forests and swamps. Dist: MA, VT, NY, ON, MI, and n. IL south to Panhandle FL and w. LA; also spread elsewhere from cultivation.

ID notes:Fall color light yellow, sometimes turning orange.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Other Comments: An important timber tree in the Southern Appalachians.
