*Bulbostylis barbata (Rottbøll) C.B. Clarke. Common name: Old World Hairsedge, Watergrass. Phenology: Jul-Oct. Habitat: Sandy fields, other disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of the Old World tropics.

ID notes: Bulbostylis barbata may grow to 3 dm tall, but usually only half that. Multiple filiform (very slender) stems grow from one spot, along with short filiform leaves. A single, brown, starburst-like head terminates each stem.
